Often, when a child disappears it is days (if ever) before a scent-discriminating dog is brought in to assist in the search. Precious time is wasted and sometimes lives are lost as a result. (Amazingly, we have come across many law enforcement agencies that do not even realize there is a difference between a disturbance tracking dog and a scent-discriminating dog-they do not even know that such a resource is out there, let alone available for them to use.) We feel it would be a wonderful idea if more law enforcement agencies had scent-discriminating dogs of their own-dogs that would be used immediately instead of as a last resort.
